October is
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women after skin cancer. While it is found less frequently in African American women, it is often found at a later - and more serious - stage in these women. Medical science has made major advances in treatment of this disease, often allowing people who have been diagnosed with it to look forward to many good, healthy years post-treatment. Early detection is key to good treatment outcomes, however. The
Alabama Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (ABCCEDP) provides free screenings for women who meet eligibility requirements. For more information call the ABCCEDP at 1-877-252-3324.
